The Congress party has announced a statewide protest in Madhya Pradesh, set for September 20, to demand a hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce, according to state unit chief Jitu Patwari.
The protest, part of the 'Kisan Nyay Yatra', will see Congress members encircling district collector offices in all 55 districts at noon. Patwari pointed out the dire financial conditions faced by farmers and criticized the government for failing to fulfill its promises.
He emphasized that despite assurances from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan about doubling farmers' income, the situation has worsened. Patwari also cited disparities between the government's rhetoric and actual farmer incomes, as detailed in a parliamentary committee report.
