Harish Rawat Criticizes BJP's Stance on Reservation and Development Issues in Uttarakhand

Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat highlighted the alignment of Rahul Gandhi's and B R Ambedkar's views on reservation, critiqued the BJP for its alleged anti-reservation stance, and addressed the insecurity faced by minorities and women due to the BJP's policies. He also pointed out development issues in Uttarakhand.

Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat stated on Wednesday that there is no difference between the views of Rahul Gandhi and the architect of India's Constitution B R Ambedkar on the matter of reservation.

Rawat emphasized that the Congress believes reservation should continue as long as inequality exists, pointing out that B R Ambedkar held the same view. He criticized the BJP for being anti-reservation and alleged that BJP's fundamentalist thinking poses a threat to the reservation system.

He also described the environment under the BJP as one where minorities, women, and backward classes feel insecure due to pervasive communal and intolerant attitudes, with incidents of mob lynching and gang rape on the rise. Rawat cited instances of such violence in Uttarakhand and accused BJP leaders of being involved in a significant number of rape cases.

The ex-chief minister criticized the poor state of road infrastructure and delayed medical examinations in rape cases to weaken evidence. He announced plans to visit Uttarakhand's remote areas to assess the impact of government schemes and to understand why Congress lost in reserved constituencies during the last assembly polls.
