Appeals Court Upholds Decision to Keep Trump's Hush Money Case in State Court
A U.S. appeals court rejected former President Donald Trump's request to move his criminal case from state to federal court. This case involves hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. The court's decision follows Trump's prior conviction for falsification of business records. Trump's sentencing is set for November 26.
A U.S. appeals court on Thursday refused to challenge a lower court's ruling that keeps former President Donald Trump's criminal case in state court. The case involves hush money payments to Stormy Daniels, a porn star.
This decision comes after Trump was convicted on May 30 of 34 counts of felony falsification of business records. Trump argued the trial violated his constitutional rights and sought to move it to federal court, which was denied by U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein on Sept. 3. Trump's appeal request was also declined by a three-judge panel at the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The court's decision sets Trump's sentencing date for November 26, following concerns about the trial's political motivations. Trump plans to appeal once he is sentenced, maintaining his denial of the allegations.
