Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, during his recent state visit to India, expressed gratitude for India's crucial financial support, including the extension of a USD 50 million Treasury Bill and a bilateral currency swap agreement. Muizzu's visit aimed at fortifying the strategic and economic alliance with the neighboring nation.
In high-level discussions with Indian officials, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, agreements were made to expand current partnerships. Notable among these was the launch of the Rupay card in Maldives and infrastructural commitments, such as building ports, roads, and schools.
The comprehensive economic and maritime security partnership reflects a significant thaw in recently strained relations, with both leaders charting a course for enhanced collaboration. India's provision of 700 social housing units under EXIM Bank’s credit facilities further strengthens this bilateral bond.
