The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has leveled accusations of 'appeasement politics' against the Congress government in Karnataka. The party questioned the Congress's ability to defend democracy after the government decided to withdraw a criminal case against individuals involved in a police attack.
The issue arose after the Karnataka government chose to dismiss charges against a group accused of hurling stones at policemen in Hubballi town in April 2022. According to BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, this was a case of serious rioting involving over 158 individuals.
Swaraj expressed her dismay, pointing out that the move defies recommendations from both the state police and the law department. She alleged that the withdrawal aims to serve the Congress's political interests.
