Community Notes Fails to Counter Election Misinformation on X
Elon Musk's X platform, through its crowd-sourced fact-checking feature Community Notes, is failing to effectively counter false election claims according to a report by the Center for Countering Digital Hate. It shows that 74% of the misleading posts analyzed did not provide accurate corrective notes to all users.
The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) has revealed that the crowd-sourced fact-checking feature Community Notes on Elon Musk's platform, X, is not adequately addressing false claims related to the U.S. election.
According to the report, 74% of the 283 misleading posts surveyed didn't offer accurate corrective notes to all users. These posts have amassed over 2.2 billion views. Social media platforms, including X, have come under fire for enabling misinformation.
Musk, known for supporting Donald Trump, has been accused of spreading election-related falsehoods. Several governments are concerned about content on X, and a past lawsuit found it responsible for increased hate speech. X's Community Notes relies on users for fact-checking instead of a dedicated team.
