Syria's newly appointed foreign minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, has extended a diplomatic invitation to Kuwait on Monday to reopen its embassy in Damascus. This move is part of Syria's broader effort to renew international relations following the recent overthrow of Bashar al-Assad.

The announcement came during a diplomatic visit to Damascus by Kuwaiti foreign minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya and a delegation of diplomats. Their visit, punctuated by a meeting with Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, signaled Kuwait's openness to re-establishing ties in the wake of Assad's downfall by rebel forces earlier in December.

In a joint press conference, al-Shibani expressed Syria's eager welcome to reforge diplomatic bonds with Kuwait. Abdullah Al-Yahya, supporting this sentiment, urged the global community to reconsider sanctions on Syria and emphasized Kuwait's leadership appeal for urgent humanitarian aid to the country.
