The Odisha Assembly witnessed high drama on Saturday as BJD and Congress legislators staged a protest demanding an urgent discussion on the plight of farmers. Their uproar led the Speaker to adjourn the session until noon.
Opposition members stormed the well of the House, raising slogans against the BJP government even before Speaker Surama Padhy could begin the proceedings. Notably, Congress member Taraprasad Bahinipati stood on a chair near the Speaker's podium, amplifying their demand. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik were present as the protest unfolded.
The Speaker's repeated attempts to restore order failed, leading to an adjournment. The BJD demanded a dedicated debate on farmers' issues, accusing the government of neglect. Senior BJD MLA Arun Kumar Sahoo criticized the government's dismissal of the matter, while Goutam Bhddha Das confirmed plans to approach the Governor with a memorandum.
