In a growing political controversy, Congress MP Manish Tewari and other Punjab leaders have voiced their concerns over the central government's decision to land planes carrying alleged illegal Indian migrants back from the United States in Amritsar.
Tewari argued that the decision to choose Amritsar sends a message that tarnishes the image of Punjab, suggesting all illegal migrants hail from the state. He questioned why other airports in states like Gujarat or Haryana were not considered.
Echoing similar sentiments, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Gulzar Singh Ranike claimed the move was part of a conspiracy to malign Punjab's reputation. Both leaders urged the central government to reconsider its approach, emphasizing the need for equitable scrutiny across states.
