Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is set for strategic discussions with U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, focusing on resolving the Ukraine war and strengthening Russia-U.S. relations. Talks are to precede a potential summit between Presidents Trump and Putin, with groundwork laid in Riyadh.
The geopolitical landscape could witness a significant shift as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov prepares for crucial talks with top U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, this Tuesday. The discussions aim to tackle the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and rebuild broader Russia-U.S. ties.
These high-level talks, among the first in recent years, are set to lay the groundwork for a potential meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Lavrov, alongside foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov, is slated to travel to Riyadh for these pivotal negotiations.
The talks come after a recent phone call between Trump and Putin, with the U.S. President instructing officials to commence negotiations on the war, aligning with one of his key campaign promises. Additionally, these diplomatic efforts are paralleled by sensitive negotiations over Gaza's future, highlighting Riyadh's mediating role.
