In a sharp critique of the ruling party, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday accused the BJP-led administration in Uttar Pradesh of plunging the state deep into debt, while presenting misleading financial figures.
Speaking a day after the Uttar Pradesh state budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 was revealed in the Assembly, Yadav asserted that every resident carries a debt burden of Rs 36,000 each, with the state’s total debt reaching about Rs 9 lakh crore. He further claimed that under the BJP's rule, specifically during Yogi Adityanath's tenure, the state's borrowing soared by Rs 6 lakh crore over the past eight years.
Yadav emphatically criticized the government for exacerbating poverty, inflation, and unemployment, while neglecting the welfare of farmers, youth, and women. He accused the government of rampant corruption and failing to execute development schemes, expressing confidence that the electorate will oust the BJP in the 2027 Assembly elections.
