The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has issued a stark warning against breaching party discipline, following internal dissent over the dismissal of high-ranking jathedars from the Akal Takht and Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. Senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia and others strongly opposed the dismissals, suggesting a growing rift within the party.
Majithia was among the first to publicly criticize the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee's (SGPC) decision to remove the jathedars, accusing party leader Sukhbir Singh Badal of orchestrating the move. Reacting to this, SAD's Balwinder Singh Bhundar labeled the statements as treacherous and warned of disciplinary action.
The escalating tensions have evoked comments from prominent figures, including former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, both condemning the removals. As the SGPC appoints Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj as an interim jathedar, the call for unity amidst growing internal conflict remains loud.
