Susan Monarez Nominated to Lead CDC: A New Era in Public Health

U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated Susan Monarez to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reported CBS News citing unnamed sources. Monarez has been serving as the acting director of the CDC, a key public health organization, since earlier this year.

Before stepping into her role at the CDC, Monarez was the deputy director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health and previously held positions at the Department of Homeland Security and the White House's Science and Technology Policy office. The CDC manages a $17.3 billion annual budget to monitor and address both domestic and international health threats.

The organization's responsibilities include setting the childhood vaccination schedule and providing vaccines to underserved children. Monarez would be reporting to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Meanwhile, the White House has withdrawn the nomination of former Congressman Dave Weldon after insufficient Senate support.
