Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stands firm at the helm of a solid 11-party coalition, despite her lukewarm ratings in opinion polls and economic growth lagging behind regional peers. The recent vote suggests stability in a nation plagued by political unrest for two decades.

Multiple administrations led by the Pheu Thai Party, under Thaksin's influence, have historically been removed by courts or military coups since 2006. This highlights persistent tension between Thaksin and influential conservatives who control Thailand's core institutions. The People's Party, the parliamentary majority, critiques Paetongtarn's ties to Thaksin, a former premier banned due to conflicts of interest and long years in self-exile.

Thaksin, having owned Manchester City, returned to Thailand in 2023, serving detention followed by parole. Now, he confines himself to advisory roles for Paetongtarn, as she navigates criticism despite a recent vote of confidence. Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, however, questions her suitability for leadership.
