Trump Predicts Substantive U.S.-China Trade Talks
U.S. President Donald Trump anticipates significant trade discussions with China over the weekend. Trump indicates that tariffs are at a peak and suggests a potential decrease. Key figures from both nations are set to meet in Switzerland, aiming to ease ongoing trade tensions affecting the global economy.
In a confident address on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced upcoming substantial negotiations between the United States and China, focusing on trade relations. Trump mentioned that the tariffs, currently at 145 percent, are unlikely to increase further, hinting at a possible reduction.
This crucial meeting, which will occur in Switzerland, involves U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and chief trade negotiator Jamieson Greer. They will engage with China's economic leader, He Lifeng, marking what could be the initial step to alleviating the trade war's strain on the global economy.
Expressing optimism, Trump stated that China has more to gain from these talks and conveyed his readiness to communicate with Chinese President Xi Jinping following the meetings. The President underscored the necessity of China opening its economy and addressing its trade surplus with the U.S., which he deemed unacceptable.
