In a significant boost to its military capabilities, Ukraine will receive nearly €1.9 billion from the European Union, according to an announcement by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Of the total funds, €1 billion is allocated for purchasing weapons directly from Ukrainian manufacturers, as stated in Shmyhal's post on Telegram. Furthermore, €600 million will be used for acquiring artillery and ammunition, while €200 million is earmarked for enhancing the country's air defenses.
Shmyhal notably acknowledged the crucial roles of Denmark, France, the Netherlands, and Italy in facilitating the €1 billion weapons purchase. He termed the initiative 'historic', as it leverages the European Peace Fund, primarily utilizing proceeds from frozen Russian assets, to finance the military support package.
