Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences after several British citizens perished in last month's tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. Modi addressed his British counterpart, Keir Starmer, acknowledging the loss with heartfelt sympathy for the victims' families.
The disaster struck on June 12 when Air India flight AI 171, operated by a Boeing 787-8, crashed shortly after departing Ahmedabad en route to London Gatwick. Out of 260 fatalities, 53 were British nationals, and only one passenger survived. The emotional toll has reverberated in both countries.
Modi further praised the Indian diaspora in the UK, noting their significant contributions to the nation's economy and cultural spirit. He emphasized that their impact extends beyond sectors like curry enterprises, enriching the UK across fields of culture, sports, and public service.
