In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday, opposition members of the Rajya Sabha walked out following a contentious exchange involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. The clash erupted over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's absence during the proceedings, particularly as discussions centered around Operation Sindoor.
Kharge, leading the charge, argued that Prime Minister Modi should have personally addressed the Upper House after a marathon 16-hour debate since many of the opposition's questions were directed at him. Despite acknowledging Shah's capabilities, Kharge emphasized that Modi's absence disrespects the House.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh maintained that any minister could respond, adhering to parliamentary rules, which irked Kharge. In a sharp counter, Shah highlighted that Kharge's own party, Congress, often restricts his voice on crucial matters. As the heated interactions continued, opposition MPs staged a walkout, with Shah criticizing their actions as a failure to address terrorism adequately in the past.
