In a scathing attack, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday accused the Election Commission (EC) of acting as 'bonded labourers' for the BJP. This comes after the panel suspended several state officials over alleged electoral roll mishaps.

Addressing a public gathering in Jhargram, Banerjee lambasted the EC's actions as a 'political witch-hunt' aimed at terrorizing state employees ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. She assured her government would protect the suspended officials.

The Chief Minister claimed the BJP, with EC's assistance, is laying the groundwork to tamper with voter rolls for electoral gains in upcoming elections, accusing them of planning a deceptive 'backdoor NRC'.
