The tragic death of Sanjay Bhowmik, a BJP worker, in West Bengal's Nadia district has set off a fierce political confrontation. Allegations of involvement by members of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) have been met with firm denials from the TMC, framing them as unfounded attempts to politicize tragedy.
According to Bhowmik's family, the attackers, one reportedly a former driver of a local TMC leader, fatally beat Bhowmik at his residence. The family claims they were barred from seeking medical help by the assailants, leading to his eventual death the next day at a local hospital. Demands for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry have been raised, alongside calls for capital punishment for the culprits.
The situation has intensified political rhetoric, with BJP leaders pointing to a broader pattern of violence against party workers. The TMC has countered, denying any political ties to the incident and labeling claims as politically motivated. Meanwhile, police indicate preliminary findings suggest personal conflict might be at play, not political machinations. With assembly elections impending, the incident has heightened ongoing political tensions in the region.
