Zelenskiy-Trump Meeting: Patriot Deal Overshadows Tense Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy described his meeting with Donald Trump as positive and focused on acquiring new air defense systems. Despite tense moments involving profanity, Ukraine is set to purchase 25 Patriot systems, enhancing its defense against Russia. Trump emphasized a ceasefire and discussed potential territory cession.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy hailed last week's meeting with Donald Trump as a success in advancing Ukraine's acquisition of air defense systems, contrasting reports of tense exchanges at the White House.
Zelenskiy announced plans to contract for 25 Patriot air defense systems to bolster Ukraine's defense against Russian missile strikes. This came amid reports of Trump pressuring Zelenskiy to concede territory in a meeting described as more contentious than initially revealed.
Despite failing to secure Tomahawk cruise missiles, Zelenskiy noted time spent discussing defense directly with Trump. Zelenskiy criticized the venue choice for upcoming peace talks between Trump and Putin in Budapest, suggesting political motivations, but expressed willingness to attend if invited.
