Summit Standoff: Trump and Putin Talks Postponed Amid Ceasefire Disputes
A planned summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has been delayed due to disagreements over a ceasefire in Ukraine. While European leaders urge a firm stance, the next meeting's timing and location are uncertain, indicating strained negotiations and heightened diplomatic tensions.
The anticipated summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has hit a roadblock. On Tuesday, disagreement over an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine prompted the postponement, clouding diplomatic efforts. Moscow's demands for more Ukrainian territory remain a sticking point.
A senior White House official confirmed there are no immediate plans for a Trump-Putin meeting. Although productive calls took place between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, they decided against an in-person meeting. This decision follows Trump's previous announcement of a potential meeting in Hungary to discuss Ukraine.
European leaders urge the U.S. to remain firm on demanding an immediate ceasefire. Despite Trump expressing support for this position after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the issue remains unresolved. The diplomatic community watches closely as preparations for the summit remain in limbo.
