In a significant development during the Bihar polls, the Election Commission has canceled the nomination of Shweta Suman, a candidate from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), for the Mohania assembly seat. Officials cited Suman's status as a native of Uttar Pradesh, disqualifying her from contesting in a Scheduled Caste reserved seat.

The seat in Kaimur district is exclusively reserved for Scheduled Castes, and the rules stipulate that candidates must be local residents of the state to qualify, unlike in general seats. Suman alleges that her disqualification is a result of undue influence from the BJP's leadership, aiming to secure a win for their candidate, Sangita Kumar.

Claiming that her residence in the area spans over two decades, Suman criticized the handling of nominations by the polling officials and accused them of favoritism after the BJP candidate's late submission of caste certification was accepted. Suman intends to pursue legal action against the decision.
