BJP Files Complaint Against Omar Abdullah Over Model Code Violation

A BJP candidate has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for violating the Model Code of Conduct. The complaint concerns Abdullah's announcement regarding the National Law University, potentially influencing voters in the Budgam assembly bypoll.

Syed Mohsin, the BJP candidate for the Budgam assembly bypoll, filed a formal complaint against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday. The complaint, submitted to the Election Commission of India, alleges a breach of the Model Code of Conduct.

The issue centers around Abdullah's statement in the Legislative Assembly. He announced that academic work for the National Law University at Ompura in Budgam would begin, a development widely covered by media and social networks, which the BJP claims may influence the local electorate.

In his assembly address, Abdullah indicated that, pending plan approvals, the university would initiate classes in April from a temporary site. The chief minister suggested using the unoccupied software technological park in Ompura as a provisional campus, despite past objections from the Indian Air Force regarding communication interference risks.
