TMC Delegation Meets Election Commission Amid Electoral Roll Revision

A 10-member Trinamool Congress delegation led by Derek O'Brien met with the Election Commission over concerns about West Bengal's electoral roll revision. The meeting follows a request by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for intervention on using specific staff and setting up polling booths in private complexes.

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation, composed of 10 members and spearheaded by Rajya Sabha leader Derek O'Brien, engaged with the full bench of the Election Commission on Friday. The interaction was in light of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal.

The delegation featured notable TMC Lok Sabha MPs such as Satabdi Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Pratima Mondal, Sajda Ahmed, and Mahua Moitra, alongside Rajya Sabha members Dola Sen, Mamata Thakur, Saket Gokhale, and Prakash Chik Barik. The discussion was driven by pressing issues highlighted by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Chief among these concerns was Banerjee's written plea to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding the prohibition on employing contractual data-entry operators and Bangla Sahayata Kendra staff for the SIR exercise. Additionally, the letter questioned the proposal for polling booths in private residential areas. Allegations regarding deaths associated with the SIR verification process have compounded the urgency in West Bengal's stance.
