The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) took disciplinary action on Thursday by suspending two of its MLAs, Arvind Mohapatra and Sanatan Mahakud, on allegations of engaging in 'anti-party activities.' The party, however, stopped short of detailing these activities, merely stating they involved corruption and betrayal.

The suspension order, authored by BJD president Naveen Patnaik, was effective immediately and officially communicated to the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly. In a public statement, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty elaborated that Patnaik maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption within party ranks, asserting that the suspended MLAs breached party guidelines.

Mohapatra, who recently joined the BJD, expressed bewilderment at the charges, seeking to clarify his position with party leadership. Meanwhile, Mahakud, known for his significant asset holdings, anticipated the move following his vocal criticisms of the previous government.
