Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), indicated the organization's readiness to assist Venezuela during a recent interview with Reuters. However, the move hinges on the recognition of Venezuelan leadership by major IMF shareholders.
The IMF has maintained minimal communication with the administration of ousted President Nicolas Maduro since 2019. Despite this, it has closely monitored the economic situation, aiming to understand the country's trajectory amidst its challenges.
Georgieva highlighted the alarming migration of over 8 million Venezuelans, signifying a significant contraction in the country's economy. Additionally, concerns are rising about hyperinflation, posing further threats to Venezuela's economic stability.
