The Mumbai civic elections witnessed a voter turnout of 52.94%, a slight dip from the 55.53% registered during the last polls in 2017. Suburban Bhandup's ward 114 led with a 64.53% turnout, while Colaba lagged at 20.88%, according to civic body data.
Of the 1.03 crore eligible voters, a significant portion exercised their franchise on Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, with voter turnout progressively increasing throughout the day. Despite a public holiday, many voters faced long queues midway through the day.
The intense contest for the 227-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, India's wealthiest municipal body, comes after its last term ended in March 2022. Political parties observed a varied flow of voters, particularly in slum-dominated areas.
