Bulgaria Faces Yet Another Snap Election Amid Political Turmoil
Bulgaria will conduct a snap election following the refusal of leading parties to form a government. This arises after the prime minister's resignation amid protests against corruption and tax increases. None of the major parties hold enough seats for a stable government, prompting the President to appoint a caretaker cabinet.
Bulgaria is headed for another snap election as political parties failed to coalesce into a government, President Rumen Radev stated. This follows the resignation of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov's coalition, which occurred amid protests over corruption and planned tax hikes.
Efforts to form a coalition have faltered, with the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms being the third party this week to decline a mandate to lead. The ongoing political instability has plagued Bulgaria, leading to its eighth election in four years.
In the backdrop of this political chaos, Bulgaria desperately needs stability to bolster its EU fund reception, fortify its infrastructure, and attract foreign investments while tackling systemic corruption.
