Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal asserted on Friday that his party expects to install mayors in five cities and secure around 350 corporators across the state. The party aims to be part of power arrangements in at least ten municipal corporations, despite alleged irregularities in the recent elections.

Sapkal pointed to successes in cities such as Latur, Chandrapur, and Kolhapur, among others. He emphasized that the Congress prioritized ideological and organizational strengths while battling as the principal Opposition force in Maharashtra. Despite shortcomings, he claims Congress stood firm against the BJP's political tactics.

Alleging unfair practices like bogus voting, Sapkal accused the ruling alliance of compromising democratic principles. He questioned the Election Commission's efficacy and insisted on Congress's continued struggle to uphold democratic values, warning that authoritarian tendencies might soon falter under ethical resistance.
