In a landmark victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the Jalna civic polls, clinching 41 of the 65 available seats. This victory marks the first time the party has attained a majority in the city, known for its steel re-rolling, seed, and agro industries.
Among the most discussed triumphs was that of Shrikant Pangarkar, an independent candidate and accused in the 2017 killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh. Pangarkar successfully defeated BJP's Raosaheb Dhoble in electoral ward No. 13.
The election witnessed a prestige tussle between Shiv Sena MLA Arjun Khotkar and his rival Kailash Gorantyal, who switched to the BJP from Congress. The Congress faced a setback with only nine wins, while Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP couldn't secure any seats.
