Uttarakhand Congress Demands CBI Probe in Farmer's Alleged Suicide Case

The Congress party in Uttarakhand demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged suicide of farmer Sukhwant Singh, accusing local police of inaction over a land fraud case. The farmer claimed he was defrauded of Rs 4 crore and named police officers in a video. The Congress submitted demands to state police.

The Congress party in Uttarakhand launched a protest march on Friday, calling for a CBI investigation into the alleged suicide of a farmer in Haldwani, who reportedly took his own life following a Rs 4 crore land fraud incident.

Allegations of police protection for the land mafia and the lack of action by Udham Singh Nagar's SSP prompted the party to demand his suspension. At the center of the controversy is Sukhwant Singh, whose video before his suicide named the police officials involved.

The incident has heightened concerns of fear and insecurity among farmers. The Congress, with leaders Ganesh Godiyal and Yashpal Arya, has urged for the immediate arrest of the accused and submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police, Deepam Seth, expressing dissatisfaction with the existing police investigation.
