The BRS's planned 'peace rally' on Saturday, advocating for the establishment of a separate Secunderabad Municipal Corporation, faced significant hurdles as police intervened and halted the procession. Authorities stated that the rally did not have the required permissions, leading to the move.
Originally, the rally was to proceed from the Secunderabad Railway Station to the Gandhi statue on MG Road. It had gained traction with support from former Minister and Sanathnagar MLA, Talasani Srinivas Yadav. The premature stoppage has sparked discontent among BRS leaders and supporters.
Senior BRS leader and former minister, T Harish Rao, voiced strong objections on social media, labeling the police's actions as a reprehensible restriction on democratic expression. The detention of BRS workers further fueled criticism, with calls for allowing peaceful protests without state interference.
