The Supreme Court's recent ruling, requiring the Election Commission to make public the names of electors summoned for hearings due to discrepancies, has been termed a significant democratic triumph by senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee.
Speaking at a rally in Barasat, North 24 Parganas, Banerjee celebrated the 'victory in court' as a precursor to the party's anticipated success in the upcoming polls, potentially in April. He criticized the BJP for attempts to selectively disenfranchise one crore voters in West Bengal, affirming the ruling as a win for 'Maa Mati Manush.'
The Supreme Court has mandated that the list be displayed in local offices within three days, with hearings to follow within ten days. The Court also permitted electors to engage assistance during hearings and recognized secondary exam admit cards as valid identification. This verdict has been viewed as a blow to BJP's strategies, with Banerjee questioning the power dynamics between the BJP and West Bengal's populace.
