Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal has accused the government of distorting parliamentary rules following objections in the Lok Sabha. The controversy emerged after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi quoted an article that included excerpts from the unpublished memoir of former Army Chief General MM Naravane.
Venugopal criticized the government for allegedly using parliamentary procedures to suppress important debates on India's security. He pointed out that members of the government were quick to label the Congress as anti-national when Gandhi highlighted inefficiencies related to border issues during the debate.
The situation escalated when the ruling NDA objected to Gandhi’s references to the memoir in his speech, prompting intense exchanges and disrupting House proceedings as members debated over the appropriateness of quoting unpublished material. The standoff highlighted ongoing tensions over discussions on national security and parliamentary protocol.
