Laura Fernández, a conservative populist, won Costa Rica's presidency with a decisive first-round victory. She pledged to continue the aggressive political agenda of her predecessor, Rodrigo Chaves, focusing on consolidating Costa Rican development and combating current global challenges.

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal reported that, with nearly all votes tallied, Fernández held 48.3% of the vote, comfortably outpacing her nearest rival, economist Álvaro Ramos, who garnered 33.4%. Ramos has conceded and committed to forming a constructive opposition.

Fernández aims to address economic growth and crime reduction, with U.S. support including congratulatory remarks from Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Costa Ricans also elected their National Assembly, where Chaves' party seeks gains. Chaves previously ran a campaign against traditional parties, tapping into public discontent over unemployment and fiscal issues.
