On Thursday, the West Bengal government unveiled an ambitious Rs 4.06 lakh crore interim budget, focusing on enhancing welfare measures just months ahead of the crucial assembly elections. Key initiatives include cash support and increased allowances for women, youths, and frontline workers.

Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya highlighted the government's commitment to supporting women through an increased monthly grant in the 'Lakshmir Bhandar' scheme. The budget also introduces 'Banglar Yuva Sathi,' providing a Rs 1,500 monthly allowance for unemployed youths, conditional on the Trinamool Congress retaining power.

Additionally, the budget outlines a pay hike for civic volunteers and Green Police personnel, while addressing demands from government employees with a four per cent dearness allowance hike. These measures aim to strengthen the ruling party's welfare narrative and address criticisms from opposition parties, particularly the BJP.
