The opposition alliance in Pakistan, led by the Tehreek Tahafuz-i-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP), staged a significant sit-in protest outside the Parliament House on Friday. The demonstration was in response to reports of health issues faced by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned.
The former cricket star has reportedly lost 15 percent vision in his right eye, prompting the TTAP, which includes Khan's own Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to call for immediate medical attention. The alliance maintains that no compromise will be made regarding Khan's health, insisting on his admission to Al-Shifa Hospital.
In a move criticized by opposition leaders as a display of weakness, the government has cordoned off roads leading to the Parliament to prevent the protest from escalating. Despite obstacles, PTI lawmakers have joined the demonstration, with former Speaker Asad Qaiser emphasizing their resolve to ensure Khan receives proper medical care.
