The Assam Congress is set to announce its first list of candidates for the approaching assembly elections by the end of the month, according to state party president Gaurav Gogoi. This announcement comes ahead of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's scheduled visit to Assam to oversee the candidate selection process.
Addressing a press conference, Gogoi revealed that the Congress plans to finalize the names for approximately 80 seats by early March, with efforts to expedite the screening process underway as directed by the central leadership. Gogoi noted that collaboration with left-leaning and regional parties is positioned well ahead of the incumbent BJP, forming a robust united front for the elections.
In preparation for her two-day visit, Vadra will partake in multiple meetings, including engagements with senior party observers and various committee leaders. These discussions will further solidify the Congress and its allies' strategies as they vie for power against the BJP-led coalition in the state's election race.
