In a pointed commentary, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi criticized the West Bengal government's treatment of President Droupadi Murmu during her attendance at the 9th International Santal Conference. The incident, which coincided with International Women's Day, was deemed an affront to women and the nation by Majhi, a notable Santhal community figure.

According to Majhi, the absence of West Bengal's Chief Minister and state leaders in welcoming President Murmu reflected a broader insensitivity to her status and role. He implored all political factions within the state to rebuke the perceived discourtesy, labeling it a blow to democratic ideals.

Echoing Majhi's sentiments, BJP's Puri MP Sambit Patra decried the alleged oversight, emphasizing Murmu's emblematic importance to Odisha and tribal communities. The event's shift in location, attributed to logistical and security concerns, added to Majhi and others' grievances about the respect due to the nation's top dignitary.
