In a dramatic political turn, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the BJP's remarkable success in the assembly polls, hailing it as an extraordinary achievement for the ruling alliance. Addressing the media at the BJP state headquarters, Sarma emphasized the role of the government's effective governance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's development agenda in the victory.
The BJP secured a commanding 62 seats, with leads in 20 more, while allies Bodoland People's Front and Asom Gana Parishad also contributed with significant wins, according to the Election Commission. Sarma criticized the Congress for its poor performance, attributing it to politicizing the death of singer Zubeen Garg and failing to connect with the electorate.
As the alliance heads towards a three-digit majority, Sarma encouraged defection among Hindu Congress leaders to the BJP, framing it as essential for Assam's security. He also declared unwavering belief in India as a Hindu nation. "Hat-trick with a century!" Sarma exulted on social media as he celebrated the victory.
