In the wake of the Assam Assembly election results, Atul Bora, president of the Asom Gana Parishad and MLA-elect from Bokakhat, voiced his party's satisfaction with the electoral outcome. Bora credited the tireless efforts of the state's leadership, particularly under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, for their victory. "Our government, under Sarma's leadership, has achieved significant developmental strides for Assam," Bora told ANI.
Bora commended Chief Minister Sarma's relentless dedication over the past five years, which he said was instrumental in propelling the state's development. Bora noted an upcoming meeting with newly elected MLAs, pointing out that among them were six newcomers. "We'll convene our first meeting with the new MLAs, confirming the critical contribution of the CM to our success," Bora declared.
Despite their electoral success, Bora highlighted ongoing challenges such as infiltration, which poses a threat to Assam's indigenous population. "Infiltration remains a major problem," he stated, adding, "The theory of infiltrators from Bangladesh is concerning as it threatens to make the indigenous people a minority."
On Tuesday, Bora announced plans for a meeting of the newly elected legislature, following the BJP's triumph in the Assam elections. Ahead of this meeting, Bora reaffirmed that the electorate's support was driven by the state's developmental agenda under Sarma's leadership, as AGP increased its seats from nine to ten in this election.
The BJP marked a significant milestone with these assembly poll results, poised to establish its first government in West Bengal while securing a third consecutive victory in Assam. The BJP clinched 82 seats in Assam, surpassing the majority threshold by 18, with regional allies AGP and BPF each securing 10 seats. Conversely, the Congress, despite teaming up with five other parties, managed to win only 19 seats.
