In a shocking incident, Chandranath Rath, a trusted aide of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Madhyamgram in West Bengal late Wednesday night.
The tragedy unfolded while Rath was on a phone call with BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh, who reported hearing gunshots before the call abruptly ended.
The BJP has claimed the attack was "pre-planned," with Rath reportedly ambushed by gunmen on motorcycles who fled after the shooting.
