Tapas Roy was sworn in as the pro tem Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday, as formal proceedings began following the BJP's unprecedented electoral victory. The election for a permanent Speaker is scheduled for Friday, according to Roy.
Roy, who transitioned from the TMC to the BJP prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, took his oath in the presence of Governor R N Ravi, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, and other prominent figures. The ceremony took place amid a saffron-hued Assembly complex, symbolizing the region's political transformation.
With 290 MLAs scheduled for oath-taking over the next two days, Wednesday will see the participation of north Bengal and Murshidabad representatives, while Thursday remains reserved for other districts. Legislative processes will follow as West Bengal adapts to its new political landscape.
