Kewal Singh Dhillon, recently appointed as the president of the Punjab BJP, has declared his commitment to lead the party to victory in the 2027 Assembly elections. Shortly after his appointment was announced, Dhillon expressed his determination to establish a BJP government in Punjab.
Dhillon, criticizing the AAP government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accused it of failing to fulfill its election promises and claimed the state was plagued by lawlessness. He assured that under BJP's leadership, Punjab would achieve top excellence and prosperity. Restating confidence in BJP's growth, he emphasized, "After West Bengal, the lotus will now bloom in Punjab too."
Acknowledging Narendra Modi's leadership for India's progress, Dhillon dismissed criticism that BJP lacks a substantial foothold in Punjab, stating confidently that they will govern in 2027. A former Congress MLA and close aide to Amarinder Singh, Dhillon joined BJP in 2022 and previously served as the state's vice-president. He replaces Sunil Jakhar, following calls within the party for a Sikh leader to head the Punjab unit.
