Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai returned to Chennai on Friday, receiving a rousing welcome from supporters at his Panaiyur residence on East Coast Road. Annamalai, who recently resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and launched his own political initiative called 'Idhu Namma Iyakkam' (This Is Our Movement), was met with enthusiasm at both the airport and his home.
The gathering drew a large number of supporters, including newly affiliated members OMR Somu and Bhaskara 'Boxer' Sundar. Somu, who resigned from the AIADMK, met Annamalai and pledged his support, while Sundar, Joint Secretary of the Tiruporur North Union Youth Wing, expressed his commitment to Annamalai's cause as well.
BJP President Nitin Nabin accepted Annamalai's resignation earlier in the day. Annamalai expressed gratitude towards BJP's leadership in his resignation letter, stating differing views on Tamil Nadu as his reason for leaving. He clarified that his resignation was well-considered and had been discussed with party leaders over 18 months, ensuring his duties were complete before stepping down.
