In a sharp critique of the BJP, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Monday questioned the stability of the BJP-JD(S) coalition over the nomination of M Nagaraja as its Rajya Sabha candidate from the state. Speaking to reporters, Kharge expressed skepticism about the alliance's internal cohesion and its strategic decisions.
Kharge further commented on the BJP's calculation regarding Janata Dal (Secular) National President and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, suggesting that the BJP might perceive Gowda as a diminishing asset in coalition politics. The announcement comes as the BJP rolled out its candidates for the Rajya Sabha and Karnataka Legislative Council elections, highlighting tensions within political alliances.
Amid intensified political activity, candidates for the Upper House of Parliament hurried to file their nominations with the approaching deadline for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections. Elections are set for June 18, covering 24 seats across ten states. The Election Commission's notification on June 1 set a filing deadline of June 8, signifying possible shifts in political allegiances and legislative dynamics.
