In a dramatic turn of political events, West Bengal’s ruling party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), appears to be facing unprecedented internal challenges. The dissension was palpable as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the residence of TMC MP Satabdi Roy in New Delhi on Monday, amidst a backdrop of rising tensions within the party ranks.

The rebellion within the TMC was further highlighted by MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar’s revelation that a group of 20 MPs has petitioned the Lok Sabha Speaker for separate seating, indicating their intention to collaborate with the Central and State Government beyond party lines. "We are against the current governance issues in West Bengal," Ghosh said, citing lawlessness and unemployment as critical concerns driving the faction's actions.

The internal fracture intensified as Mamata Banerjee arrived for an opposition meeting coinciding with a gathering of dissenters at Union Minister Bhupender Yadav’s residence, reflecting a strategic bid by the dissidents to meet constitutional guidelines under the anti-defection law. With the rebel faction claiming support surpassing the necessary threshold, it poses a significant challenge to the stability of Banerjee’s leadership.
