In a significant move toward economic development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to attend the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving the Centre and the state governments of Assam and Nagaland. This agreement focuses on the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas along the border shared by these two northeastern states.

The MoU, slated for signing at 6:30 pm at the Ministry of Home Affairs office in New Delhi, will see the attendance of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, among other officials. The initiative marks a stride toward regional cooperation and economic growth, according to officials.

The agreement is designed to significantly tap into the underutilized hydrocarbon potential along the Assam-Nagaland border, reflecting the Centre's commitment to fostering cooperative federalism. By resolving longstanding inter-state boundary disputes, it aims to ensure energy security and economic vitality in the region, alongside creating employment opportunities and improving infrastructure.

Apart from emphasizing cooperative federalism, the MoU underscores strategic energy goals by involving public and private sector participation. As global energy demands climb, this agreement is integral to India's energy roadmap, promoting domestic production and regional stability.
