Cong will fight Haryana polls collectively: Selja

Haryana Congress's newly appointed president Kumari Selja on Saturday said the party will fight the state polls collectively by moving in "fast-forward mode". Stressing that the allocation of tickets will be done soon, Selja said all sections of society, including youth and women, will be accommodated in ticket distribution.

"Elections are near. We need to enter jointly in the electoral field. Due to paucity of time our challenges have increased. We will collectively fight the assembly polls by moving in fast forward mode," she told reporters after formally taking charge as the state party chief here. Asked about the absence of Kiran Choudhary and Ashok Tanwar during her charge-taking ceremony, she said, "All are part of party and will work collectively in the coming days."

She ruled out alliance with any political outfit ahead of the polls, likely by October. On being asked that Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's slogan is for BJP to cross 75 seats out of the total 90 in the assembly, she said he always indulges in propaganda.

On Congress, she said the party did not keep targets. She said the situation has changed after the Lok Sabha polls. "Our economy is in dire straits and it has affected every section of society...youths are losing jobs," she said, adding that Congress would enter the poll arena on several issues, including economic slowdown, political vendetta, corruption and inflation.

She admitted that she got the responsibility to run the affairs of the party "little late", but added it is a team work and we accept the challenge. On the issue of the CM face, she said it is not an issue now.

"Congress never field candidate with CM face in the polls. The party do fight under incumbent CM's leadership. It's not an issue its only created by media," she said. She said the BJP won the 2014 assembly by misguiding people on the issue of patriotism. "They only misguide people to divert their attention from key issues on the ground," she said.

She said that the new Motor Vehicle Act has become a "joke". "It is not clear whether they want to control traffic violations or collect money," she said. She said that no development had taken place in the state during the BJP regime. "They only divided the society, they can not seek votes on the plank of development," she said.

"BJP passed its time on false slogans," she said.
